Reindeers: An
Economic Asset
Scientists estimate that wild caribou were domesticated 5,000
years ago in Eurasia. All of today's domesticated reindeer probably came from
these stocks. Reindeer herding is still a way of life in several northern
climates. In fact, recent numbers estimate that over 2 million reindeer are
living in Russia, and are an important economic asset for many peoples.
